Read what some of the critics are saying about Siren.

LA SHORTS Fest Review - Of the four black and white films, Siren stood out for its tongue in cheek handling of film noir, including the ominous off-screen narration, Dutch angles, and genre acting.

John Nesbit Editor-In-Chief - CultureDose.net

Thumbs UP! Writer/Director Andrew Mandapat has mastered Noir’s witty dialogue, punchy editing, and crafty camera angles as “Siren” is a success in all these elements—especially considering the limitations that come with low-budget filmmaking.

Anthony Selbitschka - moviepatron.com

I’m impressed by Mandapat’s ability to create such an impressive film noir homage with a running time of less than twenty minutes.

Mary Jo Tucker - Reel Talk Movie Reviews

3 out of 4 Stars - Andrew Mandapat's short film noir, "Siren," is an entertaining throw back jab in the eye.

Jonathan W. Hickman - Einsiders.com

With a disillusioned protagonist, claustrophobic close-ups, skewed camera angles, and cynical dialogue like "It's a nice enough place... if you don't mind the smell of cheap perfume and expensive smoke" Siren is a great mini-noir that hits all the right notes.

Micah Prude - Dumb Distraction

6.5 out of 10 Stars - Siren successfully maintains the momentum of a suspenseful story that unravels right up until the end.

Director's Note

Film Noir is like a siren call (to use the mythological allusion of our movie's title) to many filmmakers. Noir is an iressistible genre because of its emphasis on hard boiled plots about desperate characters, told through a visually unique and recognizable style.

Siren is influenced by Billy Wilder's "Double Indemnity" and John Huston's "The Maltese Falcon". The themes of deception, greed, lust, and existential nihilism in those film noir classics informed every frame of Siren. The challenge of telling a sufficiently dark, twisted noir plot within the conventions of a short movie was a dare that both the cast and production crew of this project could not resist.

The short screenplay for Siren is a shortened version of a full length feature script of the same name. Likewise, this short movie is an abridged version of the full length feature film that we envision making in the near future.

Feel free to read the script, or just the synopsis. There are also many behind the scenes pictures to peruse.

Siren also includes original music from up and coming artists.

Cara Young - "Insatiable"
